Liverpool MarketsIf you fancy a spot of shopping with the locals, then the markets of Liverpool are worthy of your consideration. To the west of the city and just across the Mersey Estuary, Birkenhead is especially notable and often packed with stalls and bargain hunters.

Close to the New Mersey Shopping Park and the South Parkway train station, Garston Market is another safe bet and those prepared to haggle over prices are likely to find some favourable deals waiting. Elsewhere in the city of Liverpool, markets are to be found on Great Homer Street, at the Millennium House on Victoria Street, and at the Stanley Dock on Regent Road.

Garston Market is one of the most important and oldest in the city, dating back to the 19th century. Located in the Garston area of Liverpool, the market sells all of the usual goods, such as clothes, antiques, collectors' items, books, jewellery and general bric-a-brac, and there are also some food stalls here, selling hot and cold snacks.

The Great Homer Street Market, in the Walton area of Liverpool, is close to the city centre. Held each Sunday throughout the year, visitors can expect to find huge numbers of stalls selling a wide variety of clothes, fabrics, home wares, books, music, antiques, furniture, hardware, fruit and vegetables, meat, snack food and much more besides.

Farmers' Market

The Liverpool Farmers' Market is one of the newest in the city and takes place each month in the heart of the city centre. Selling fresh produce from local Merseyside farmers, roughly 30 stallholders sell everything from fresh fruit and vegetables - including organic produce, meats and fish, to cheeses, bread, pastries, cakes and many delicacies.
